The author, Richard Dawkins, Ph.D., outlines his view of evolution and presents his scientific findings regarding how genes which promote selfishness tended to survive. In addition, he explains how even altruistic behavior, such as a bee stinging and intruder and suiciding for the good of the colony, is actually selfish from the genetic perspective. All that matters is the individual gene, and the survival of the colony as a whole helps the survival of the genes in that colony.

“The gene is the basic unit of selfishness.”
